Training Day

Students From around the UK Learn More about Right To Play

Right To Play held its second annual Student Ambassador training day at LSE on Saturday April 16th. Students from universities across the UK took part in over 5 hours of fun filled activities and learning modules. Student Ambassadors were able to learn more about Right To Play, engage in discussion around sport for development, take part and coach games Right To Play uses in the field and share ideas on how to support Right To Play.

The event brought together both new and experienced Students Ambassadors giving those new to the programme some inspiration as to what is possible and those who have been involved an opportunity to share their successes. The atmosphere was extremely positive as everyone in attendance was given equal opportunity to contribute, exchange ideas and build momentum for Right To Play.

Beyond engaging in what Right To Play does in the field, we looked at supporting Right To Play in the UK.  Connecting to Right To Play through twitter, facebook and youtube, the running of events, our Student Ambassador programme and what types of volunteer opportunities are available. A further point of discussion was the annual Right To Play bike ride. As this started as a student venture there are still strong ties to its university roots and will be a fantastic event.

The highlight of the day was unquestionably the games session where students were able to take part in the crux of Right To Play programming, the games. After participating in a handful of games and activities it became easy to understand how Right To Play teaches messages of communication, teamwork, peace-building and an endless list of additional  life skills in the developing world. The students were then given the opportunity to coach Right To Play games themselves, to develop their skills and get an idea of what it takes to be a Right To Play coach.

With over 125 Student Ambassadors at universities across the UK Right To Play has one of the largest and most innovative student engagement programmes in the UK. There are still opportunities to get involved so why not become a Student Ambassador yourself.

Right To Play is proud to be the official charity of British Universities and Colleges Sport. Since 2008 the partnership has raised enough money to give over 20,000 more children in developing areas of the world access to Right To Play programmes that promote education, health, life skills and peace.
