Autumn Adventures
Autumn Fundraising for Right To Play
The Right To Play Student Ambassadors have had a fantastic autumn of fundraising, with events being completed across the country from trick or treating to black tie balls. Thank you to all those that organised the events or took part, read more to find out what people did and what is being planned from now until Chritmas and how you can get involved.
One of the scheduled fundraising events this year was Fright To Play which was a trick or treat raid of university halls with a difference - Student Ambassadors dressed in Halloween costumes and exchanged sweets for donations.
Will Kerr-Dineen, my Fright To Play at Cardiff University:
“I am one of Right To Play's newest Student Ambassadors and Fright To Play was my first fundraising event for Right To Play. I found it easy to organise and I thoroughly enjoyed it, from making the costumes, to meeting new students, to counting the money! I am looking forward to doing a similar one in festive costume this Christmas and hope to raise even more money.”
Other universities such as Warwick and Oxford held similar events; while students at Durham, Hull and Loughborough have been doing street collections. There was a fantastic Sports Ball with the Hawkes and Ospreys at Cambridge University – a great start to a year long partnership. There have been auctions in Dundee, Swansea RAG have made us one of their official charities, Leeds and Leeds Met put their fierce competitiveness to one side to promote the best values of sportsmanship by supporting us at their varsity, and St Mary's and UCLAN are amongst the many other unis who have raised money to change children’s lives in the developing world.
We’re looking forward to a host of new events going on later this term such as fashion shows, AU calendars and sports tournaments at universities from all around the UK from Glasgow to Bournemouth via Cardiff.
Christmas Time
Christmas offers countless fun fundraising opportunities. Already some Student Ambassadors are arranging brilliant and innovative events such as, a trampoline tournament, a drag week and football and netball tournaments. As you can see there are loads of fun things you can do. If you want to get involved and become an Ambassador yourself please contact Leo at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you want to do something for Right To Play this Christmas but do not have the time to organise a large event then why not build on the success of Fright To Play and do a Santa Raid. Simply gather a few friends together, dress-up in festive costumes and grab a few fundraising buckets. Then do a door to door raid of university dorms, explaining how much Right To Play does for children and for how little - it costs £25 for a child to take part in our programmes regularly for a year. Then ask for any spare change.
Everyone loves a Chritmas party so try and raise some money and awareness with a some Christmas Song Karaoke, a Christmas present raffle - enter for £5 and win a Christmas present for yourself or to give someone else, a Christmas meal or a Secret Santa fundraiser - the options are endless. This is the time of year for giving so take the initiative, organise an event and make a difference this Christmas.
