The Great Warwick Jump Press Release
The Great Warwick Jump 2010
During The Great Warwick Jump 114 students participated in a charity parachute jump and raised over £30,000. It was organised by our supporters Choose a Challenge and this year over £4,000 was raised for Right To Play. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them and each and everyone of the students who selected Right To Play as the charity they wanted to fundraise for. One such student was Scarlet Yu who is pictured and uploaded a video of her experience here.
After months of organisation, planning and hard graft the first weekend of March saw 114 tandem skydivers from the University of Warwick taking part in The Great Warwick Jump (http://www.chooseachallenge.com/jump/warwick/). Friday 5th March began with 2 minibuses packed full of students leaving Warwick at 6.30am. After a 2 hour drive and a 30 minute briefing they were jumping through the air experiencing the delights of tandem skydiving for the very first time. By 2pm all 28 students had landed safely, updated their Facebook statuses and boarded the minibuses ready to return home.
Saturday started in a similar manner with 2 coaches heading north from Warwick in the early hours. Despite the weather delaying progress we persevered and before sunset we had welcomed another 73 students to the world of skydiving. Heather Winebloom, a participant on The Great Warwick Jump, added, "I did something I've always wanted to do; tumble out of a plane from a ridiculous height! Just wanted to say a huge thanks (in particular to Rob Smith) for making it so easy for me to sign up this year and to get my certificate (not to mention the experience of a lifetime!!). Thanks again, and congratulations for another brilliantly organised event!".
Sunday provided us with some of the best weather of the year so far with cloudless blue skies and a warm breeze. The final 13 Warwick students descended from the skies under colourful parachutes having enjoyed the thrill of a lifetime whilst raising funds for very worthy causes. Will Bennett from Right To Play, one of the preferred charities for The Great Warwick Jump, said, "Everyone had such a fantastic experience doing the skydive, and Right To Play raised thousands of pounds in the process for children all over the world. Thank you so much to Choose a Challenge for outing on such a great event, it was a huge success".
In total The Great Warwick Jump raised in excess of £30,000.00 for over 80 charities including £4,000.00 raised for Right To Play. Choose a Challenge http://www.chooseachallenge.com would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the participants, sponsors, charities, helpers and staff involved with the event this year - thank you!
