Making a World of Difference for Right To Play
Beth Eyre competed against over a thousand candidates to win a Vodafone World of Difference placement to work at the charity of her choice. Beth's prize was a 2 month work placement which began in January at Right To Play's London office and took a few moments to tell us about what she will be getting up to.
Why did you choose Right To Play?
I chose Right To Play after becoming aware of the charity during my time at University. After seeing how successful their fundraising events were in Newcastle I researched Right To Play and found that it was a great charity that sadly didn’t get the widespread recognition it deserved. I am making it my mission to help change that, to spread the word and get more and more students involved in raising funds and awareness for this amazing cause. Sport is really important to our development as we grow up because it teaches us important life skills and, importantly, we get to have fun. If we all come together in the UK, we can help disadvantaged children around the world have the right to sport and play as they grow up too and ultimately change their future.
What are you doing at Right To Play?
During my time at Right To Play I am the Youth Movement Coordinator. My job is to coordinate Right To Play Month, which will be March. Throughout March there will be a massive campaign to get students learning about Right To Play, organising fundraising events and giving them an opportunity to get more involved with charity work and volunteering. Currently I’m working with students to coordinate fundraising activities throughout March; we already have a number of great events planned all over the country. We have organised some large scale national campaigns such as a running challenge with BUCS that will be on their Facebook page, a text donations campaign, and a Rag mega-raid in London.
What would you like to achieve?
Ideally I’d like to raise a million pounds; however if I can get Right To Play Month off the ground and get more students engaged with Right To Play and having fun whilst raising as much money as possible, I will be very happy.
