Christmas
We're Dreaming Of A Right To Play Christmas
It's cold, it's wet and smatterings of Christmas jingles can be heard on radios across the nation - Christmas is coming. Whether you are a holiday grinch or a xmas lover Right To Play has a number of fun ways you can enjoy this time of merriment and bring joy to those around you whilst changing lives around the world.
The Ideal Christmas Present - Paul Smith has written a fantastic book entitled, Great Moments of Sportsmanship & Extraordinary Sports People. It is a wonderful collection of stories and includes one about our very own CEO and founder, Johan Olav Koss. If you write RTP in the name field (e.g. 'Joe Bloggs RTP' or 'Queen Elizabeth RTP') £3 will be donated to Right To Play - enough to pay for the sporting equipment for one child for an entire year. This is the Christmas gift that keeps on giving, buy it here - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Moments-Sportsmanship-Extraordinary-Sports-People/dp/0956106803/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227885563&sr=8-1
Sponsored Ski To Everest - Pretty much everyone wants to go skiing in the Christmas holidays. We can give them the next best thing. Ask your local gym or sports centre to lend you some cross trainers for the day and organise a mass 'ski to Everest'. It is 4500 miles to Everest so if you think it is too far you can always change it to somewhere else, Mont Blanc for example. The idea is you get some friends, volunteers, a sports club or society to cumulatively 'ski' a distance together as a team. If you managed to get 25 people to do it and each be sponsored £20 you would raise £500 - enough to train a Right To Play coach and enable them to work with 14 new children from developing areas.
Bingo - Organise a bingo night. Either at a local pub or at your students union. Ask local companies to donate some prizes or buy some yourself. Charge £3-5 for people to play. You can definitely find some people who wouldn't mind playing some bingo, having a drink and a few laughs together. Theme the night and make it the social event of the year.
Kristmas Krispy Kreme Sale – Krispy Kreme will sell you donuts for 65p each, and you can sell them on for about £1 – you need to give them 2 weeks notice, but its a really simple and tasty way to make some money and give people what they want - donuts. Sell them somewhere where a lot of people walk, your local high street or somewhere at uni and you can also take orders for deliveries to lectures and the library. http://www.krispykreme.co.uk/fundraising/how-it-works/
Present Tombola – People buy a raffle ticket say 50p for 1, and £1 for 3. If their ticket is a winner they win a prize from a number of wrapped up gifts you have there. Possible gift ideas; a RTP hoody/tshirt/, board game or comedy items from a charity or £1 shop, sweets, bottle of wine, RTP wristband, can of beer. Nothing too expensive ... fun things. You could set up a table inside/outside your union for an hour or two at a busy time or do it door to door through halls.
Christmas Party – ask a local club, pub or your union to host a Christmas party where a percentage of the entry fee goes to Right To Play.
Christmas Quiz – Teams sign up for £1 or £2 per person, have a bunch of prizes, and with a few drinks, cheesy jokes and fun bonus rounds you can raise good money and have great fun. Or if there is already an existing pub/union quiz you know about see if you can introduce a Right To Play round where money goes to RTP or all profits goes to RTP once a month.. Possible questions; how many times in Away in a Manger is the word manger said? What year was All I want for Christmas by Mariah Carey released? Name Santa’s Reindeer – 1point for each 1 guessed. Who played the title character in Elf? Etc.
Speed Dating – No one wants to be without someone to give a peck on the cheek at New Year. Organise a Christmas Speed Dating event to ensure this doesn’t happen. It can be held at the union, a pub or even on a smaller scale at your house or common room amongst friends- A nice way for people to meet each other and raise some money for Right To Play.
