Projectfootball's summer score

Hunt it down
football huntThe Huntingdon Right To Play champions are back

The first week of the summer holidays saw Projectfootball's first summer fives tournament.

Local school children in Huntingdon took part in the event which continues to donate funds and raise the awareness of Right to Play within the UK.

Players competed against each other over two days in the group stages, with the top two meeting each other in the final on the Friday afternoon. After 300 minutes of non-stop football, Juventus FC took on FC Internazionale Milano in the showpiece match of the tournament. With a number of excellent displays from the players on both sides, it was eventually Inter that were crowned champions winning 4-2 in the final.

The team, which consisted of Carla Humphrey, Ben Burton, Matt Allan, Charlie Ling and Ollie Simpson were the epitome of organisation from the way they played to co-ordinating a home and away kit for the two days and were fully deserved winners of the Projectfootball trophy.

Matt Allen was named player of the tournament after a series of wonder goals, including a super strike in the final, and displaying skills and technique that were well in advance of someone still only 12 years old.

The skills and tricks shown by all the players over the two days were, at times, unbelievable. Organiser Matt Wilsher commented; "For a long time I've doubted whether we will ever produce a Leo Messi or Christiano Ronaldo, because of the way the mentality is towards football in this country, it doesn't allow for players to be creative and express themselves. However, the last two days have proved that kids are able to do it, if the environment is right, and that there is no pressure on them as they have all the moves. They just need to be encouraged to use them".

The next event is lined up for the 1st and 2nd September where it is hoped that a special guest will be in attendance!! Watch this space for details. Anyone wishing to take part should contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
