Macadam Cup held in honor of Right To Play

March 25th 2009 saw the Macadam Cup - the pinnacle of the sporting year at King's College London - combine with the very first Right To Play Day, a nationwide effort to bring the UK's sport-playing students together in support of sport for development.

The legendary rivalry between King's College London proper and King's College London Medical School comes to a peak each year at the Macadam Cup, the prestigious trophy awarded to the overall winner in a day of competitions in sports ranging from Rifle to Rugby. Conscious of the fierce competition between the two schools, King's decided to hold the day in aid of Right To Play.

While clearly separated by their clamorous school allegiance, supporters of both institutions were united in the sporting values that Right To Play utilises for sustainable development - leadership, commitment, teamwork and fair play. Not to mention the frequent bursts of rain, a lot of cider and an all-round party atmosphere.

KCLMS were the victors in Badminton, Rowing, Fencing, Men's Rugby, Women's Rugby, Women's Football, Women's Hockey, Squash and Darts while King's won Men's Football, Netball, Tennis, Rifle, Men's Hockey, and Ultimate Frisbee. A very tense men's hockey match at the end of the day left KCLMS with the final victory of 9-6, meaning they retain the Macadam Cup until the eagerly anticipated rematch in 2010.
