Ergo For It!Warwick Rowing Club Row One and a Half Million Metres for Right To Play
Yesterday, as we typed from our sedentary swivel chairs, Warwick Rowing Club came together to attempt to row one million metres on ergonometers to raise money for Right To Play. Not content with this ambitious goal, Warwick's fantastic rowers clocked in a staggering 1.4 million metres - that's 162 times the height of Everest!
Madeleine Holland, Student Ambassador at Warwick, sums up the day:
"Wednesday 25th February saw a squash court being taken over by the University of Warwick Boat Club who were attempting the Million Metre Challenge. Many of the rowers participated in the challenge which ran from 7.15am – 8.30pm, a long day had by all. With 3 rowers managing to row a fierce 100km, 2 rowing 75km and 70km and the majority of others rowing 50km the metres soon added up and we ended on a total of 1,436,000m. It was a fantastic achievement for everybody, and after giving the rowers a day to rest their weary legs we are now collecting the sponsorship money in. With an estimate of £1000 going to Right To Play, the day was well spent and the blistered hands well worth it. Not too sure if the rowers will be doing it anytime soon again though!"
