Football Club Donates Profit to Right To Play

11-15 year olds take part in The Football ProjectFootball Project

New Social Enterprise Engages UK Children in Aid of Right To Play

Local secondary school children in Huntingdon kicked off the New Year in style on Monday with the launch of a brand new football initiative named Project Football.  Aimed specifically at 11-15 year olds, boys and girls competed, in the snow, as part of a five a side tournament held at Hinchingbrooke School aiming to become champions of the inaugural competition.

Players were also made aware of Project Football’s commitment to support Right To Play, whom the tournaments raise funds for.

Villarreal CF were the tournament winners and will become the first holders of the Project Football trophy. The team consisted of Sean Olley, James Downing, Adam Pedlar, Robyn Barlow and Josh England.  FC Porto were the runners up as David Hartley was named player of the tournament for his performances and sportsmanship.

Founder Matt Wilsher added “If we are genuinely serious about developing children in this country, both as footballers and as young people, then they need to become the main focus of what we are trying to achieve. We need to be creating opportunities for them to maximise their potential. If we can point them in the right direction, then allow them to express themselves then they can move mountains”.

The success story looks set to continue throughout 2009 with a ‘February Fives’ tournament being lined up for Monday 16th February. Anyone interested in taking part should contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
