BUCS Staff Get Grim for Right To Play

A glorious mud bath was on offer for three staff members of British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) at the weekend (Saturday 6 December) as they competed in the Grim Challenge for official charity Right To Play.

The eight-mile off-road, trail race was grim by name and grim by nature as over 1800 runners battled across rivers, muddy streams, World War I-style trenches and under cargo nets to cross the line. With the course normally home to military 4x4s and tanks, overall mental and physical toughness was needed by the team who clocked an impressive eight place in the mixed team competition. Finishing with a waist-high freezing trench (to clean off the mud), the BUCS team resisted frostbite and hypothermia to come a respectable 15th overall.
