Ambassador Profile - Becky White
Name:
Becky White
What do you like about your university?
I love Loughborough because there are so many exciting opportunities to get involved with. I'm doing everything I want to do all in one place.
You have done many things for Right To Play – tell us about them and your highlights of 2009?
My first fundraiser for RTP was a Weetabix eating contest, and I won it. Since then I have organised coffee mornings, car washing, a pub quiz... loads of things. I also have the Right To Play logo on my car doors so that when I'm cruising around the country on various adventures I can be promoting the charity at the same time.
My main achievement so far is raising £1600 to do the Edinburgh to London cycle challenge. The only problem was that I came off my bike a week before the start of the challenge and fractured my elbow. Not letting my arm in full cast stop me, nooooo... I took to the turbo trainer and did half the mileage on that, still participating and travelling with the group. The whole week was the best time of my life; the people, the banter oh and I got to meet Mark Cavendish (but I won't confess my love for him incase he reads this).
What are your projects for the upcoming year?
My next challenge is the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October and after that I think there should be another kind of eating contest (that I can win again) or an attempt at breaking a world record - perhaps a Red Ball keepy uppy challenge?
Why did you become a student ambassador – and what have you learnt from the role?
I became a student ambassador because I fully support the work of RTP and being involved with sport myself I know that it is a fantastic tool for development.
Since taking on the role I have learnt a little goes a long way... whether that be a spare moment to listen to what RTP is all about or the loose change from your back pocket. Oh and I've learnt to use my brakes when cycling downhill.
