Ambassador Profile - Jordan Hallpike
Name: Jordan HallpikeCourse: BSc Sport Technology
University: Brighton. He says:I love the diverse and interesting people in Brighton, I love being by the sea and I love the buzz that the huge student population gives to the town.
Why did you become an Ambassador?
A friend of mine ran the London Marathon in aid of Right To Play, and through helping him fundraise for it I learned more about their philosophy and realised the cause was one I felt strongly about.
I saw the Student Ambassador role as an excellent opportunity to actively involve myself and my university football team in raising money for a charity that we all now feel close to.
Your next event - what's in store for February 12th?
A live music event at Kulture in Brighton, as part of the Uni’s ‘Raise and Give’ week. The upstairs part of the venue will showcase four great bands from Brighton and South London, with four top Brighton DJ's downstairs in the club. It’ll be great, as I’ve got the University’s support, plus the support of the Brighton Panthers (my university football squad).
Tell us a bit about your plan to tour Africa with the Panthers for Right To Play.
About a year ago myself and a fellow Panther, Gabriel Gonzalez, thought of the idea of taking the graduates of our University football team out to Africa to perform basic volunteer work, whilst playing local teams and Universities.
With Right To Play’s support, we’ve begun looking for possible locations and projects. We currently have links with Universities in South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya and Ghana. The idea of the trip is to carry out basic charity work and 'Panther Festival Days' that encourage the core ethics of Right To Play. We also plan to record the events in a documentary style film, showing the journey of the Panthers through Africa. This will hopefully inspire future university students to actively get involved in the cause.
Unfortunately such a trip does not come cheap, so in order for it to go ahead we are looking for major corporate sponsorship. If you are interested, or know of a company that may be interested in sponsoring this exciting project, please contact me at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Panthers' motto is 'changing the world with the power of football' - what are your beliefs in the power of sport?
This special bond that exists between our members is not just down to football: it is the camaraderie, the team spirit, and the pride in being part of the Panther community that makes this particular group of people so special.
Although we come from all different walks of life, football forms our common ground and is the universal language we all understand. If we can share this concept and the resulting friendships with people that are less fortunate than ourselves, I believe we can in some small way affect people’s lives in a positive way through the power of football.
Best sporting moment:
Would have to be Ole Solskjear’s 90th minute winner in the Champion’s League final in ‘99!
Best night out in Brighton?
HedKandi @ the Honey Club, last Friday of every month.
